Tia of Pyxida | Brand Photography for Photographers
I first heard of Pyxida Photography when I saw her photos from one of the first weddings at The Venue CU this year. I hadn’t heard of Pyxida before that so I was interested to learn more! Just a few weeks after Pyxida’s shoot there, I had a styled shoot, so the interest was then mutual! We both started following each other.
Fast forward another few weeks, and Tia, the owner of Pyxida, contacted me after seeing some of my posts about brand photography. Tia wanted to amp up her brand and get some more photos of herself for both web and social media.
She filled out my questionnaire with lots of great info and since she was coming in from out of town (near Bloomington), I chose the locations based on her answers. I put together a game plan for us with 3-4 locations, outfit suggestions, and a list of props to pack. My detailed game plan includes sample photos too so each client can get an idea of my vision for their session.
Pyxida means “compass” in Greek, and Tia’s family heritage is Greek and Mediterranean. Her logo includes an olive branch, so we wanted to tie in as much of the white, green, and black as possible to fit her brand. Her olive green jacket was perfect and exactly what I was envisioning!
We did a few portraits outdoors with her camera (despite sprinkles all morning!). Then we headed inside for some desk/office portraits and some favorite items — a Friends Central Perk mug (“See, he’s her lobster!”), a suitcase (for her love of travel), and a little clay pot that is from her dad’s homeland in Cyprus.
Since Tia loves to hike both in Illinois and when she travels, I knew we had to tie that in. And I had the perfect spot!! I mentioned these trees that resemble some you’d see in the Pacific Northwest. We parked and walked up to the spot, and as we turned the corner, Tia said “Are you kidding me?!” I kid you not… one of my favorite spots in Champaign-Urbana!
Thanks for a great session, Tia! I love what we created together, and have been loving seeing what you post and how you use the images on social media and your website!
