Questions To Ask Your Professional Wedding Photographer

Your wedding day is one of the most exciting days of your life. It’s normal that you want everything to go perfectly. One of the toughest decisions you’ll make involves hiring your wedding photographer. This person will be capturing the memories you’ll have for years to come, so you must choose carefully. What should you ask your professional wedding photographer? Read on to find out.

How Long Have You Been in Business?

What’s their background? Ask them what school they went to, their experience level, and how long they’ve worked as a wedding photographer. A word of warning: lack of experience in a college setting doesn’t necessarily indicate that they’re a bad photographer. Today, technology has advanced to the point where people are self-practice and experience. Some of the best photographers are self-made.

Instead, ask them how long they’ve been doing weddings or photography in general and if they took the initiative to find other educational opportunities. You’ll be surprised. You might find the perfect photographer for you this way.

May I See Your Portfolio?

How can you know whether you can work with this photographer without seeing a formal body of work? Make sure you check out their portfolio. They likely have some great work, but it may not be the style you want or the subject matter you want to tackle. If you want to shoot you, your spouse, and the decorations primarily, what do you do if you see only pictures of food?

At that point, one of the top questions you can ask your photographer is to give you a sample that you can look at on the spot. Have them shoot a few photos of you at the venue you’ll be at so that you can get a taste of what you’re going to experience without edits. Then, ask to have them sent to you when they finish editing them. When you do that, you’ll be able to see their raw talent. It’s only up from there.

What’s It Like Working With You?

Every photographer is different. You’ll want to get an idea as to how they work. On the wedding day, they might choose to shoot candid, natural photos or carefully planned ones. A good way to determine if you’ll be comfortable with them or not is to pay them a little extra to follow you around and shoot candid photos. If you do this, you’ll be able to get to know them on a deeper level and see how they approach their creative process. If you aren’t comfortable, you can move on to someone else.

In short, finding the right wedding photographer for you isn’t easy. However, when you find the right one for your needs, it’ll make all the difference. Heed these tips, and you’ll do just fine.
