How to Add Sunrise & Sunset Times to Google Calendar

UPDATE: This post has been updated to reflect new information and links that have changed over time.

Photographers, this post is for YOU!

We all love that golden hour light, and I try to schedule most of my sessions 1 hour or so before sunset, as I’m sure many of you do.

And that means I have found myself constantly Googling the sunset times when trying to book sessions. So I thought “wouldn’t it be easier if the times were just THERE in my calendar all the time?!”

So I did what any normal person would do… I Googled it! LOL

I found this handy link (UPDATE: This service is now a PAID offering rather than free) through WebCal.guru which offers a ton of different calendars, including a few free options. There are multi-year options, but I signed up for the annual account (less than $6/year!) which renew automatically next October.

Once you sign up for a paid account though (of which there are different tiers), you can then add the “Golden Hour” or the “Sun” calendars to your personal calendar (I use Google Calendar), and have it handy whenever you need it for scheduling!

Now I have both calendars turned on with certain options turned off. I didn’t want sunrise on there really, so I unchecked it, but I left Blue Hour, Golden Hour, and actual sunset time, as seen below:

So the above is how it looks in Google Calendar. I’ve temporarily hidden all my personal and business calendars for this screen shot, which you can also do with this calendar if it gets too busy looking for you or in off-season.

Once you add the sunset calendars to your personal calendar, you may need to do a calendar refresh to get them to show up. I experienced this when I moved to the paid version, but the help section on WebCal.guru will walk you through the steps.

I hope this little hack makes your life just a tiny bit easier! Happy photographing!! <3
