Easton, Illinois 150th Sesquicentennial Celebration
A couple weekends ago, my small town hometown on Easton, Illinois (population 400!) celebrated its 150th anniversary with a 2-day celebration. The team that organized the whole event did a fantastic job and the town’s Samuell Park was a perfect location. (I also have to give a little plug for the beautiful corn backdrop adjacent to the park which belongs to my Dad!) 🌽 🌽 🌽
I had forgotten how big that little park is, and it was fun to see the area loaded with all kind of activities and vendors. There were bounces houses for the kids, antique tractor displays, craft & home-based business vendors, food trucks, a cake walk, in addition to tents from local organizations. The Mason County Farm Bureau offered free ice cream on Friday night, the Pork Producers sold pork chop sandwiches, and the Easton firemen sold ribeye sandwiches.
Friday night was the opening ceremony with my Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Hovey being named as the parade Grand Marshal! She’s a spry 95 years young and was the perfect selection! That evening also held a talent show and Matt Miller performed for the entertainment.
On Saturday morning there was a 5K run/walk, followed by the parade which had SEVENTY entries! It was a great parade and I am so proud of my little hometown for showing up for it! Later in the day there was a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a bags tournament, and a waterfight by the Easton firemen.
It was such a fun weekend, and I hope you enjoy these photos I took throughout the weekend.
