Since I got spring fever last week while the weather was nice and now it’s chilly again, I’m itching to get out and shoot some images as soon as the weather warms up again. So, if you book a session between now and April 8, you will get $25 off the session fee! The session must take place before May 17. I have limited availability in the summer months due to my wedding schedule, so April and May are the best times to fit in a session! The weather will be nice, the sun will be shining, and the grass will be green! What more could you ask for?

To lock in the $25 off special, just shoot me an email at holly [at] hollybirchphotography [dot] com or call 217-737-0971 and I will get you a contract. $100 of the balance is due to hold the date. The remainder is due at the session.

Stephanie’s graduating! | Urbana portrait photography

There’s this “rule of 7″ in my family that went for a full 49 years before it got broken. But starting with my mom’s oldest sister, my aunts, mom and most of my female cousins on my mom’s side are separated by 7 years, including my sister and me. It’s kind of a neat thing if you ask me.

Speaking of years, I’m really proud of my sister Stephanie for a lot of reasons. We have a lot of stories between us, ranging from leaving her at a Cracker Barrel once in Ohio (she tells that one every chance she gets) to her having the fattest steer at the Jr. National Hereford Expo in Montana one year. Then there was the time that she didn’t get accepted to the theater department at U of I, so we drove around campus for half a day talking to the admissions office and the art department trying to get her into one of the programs at Illinois. I think I told the admissions lady something along the lines of “She WILL go to school here eventually, whether it’s this year or down the road.” I guess we did something right because within a couple weeks she was accepted to the art department and she’s been there ever since.

Mostly though, I think she deserves the most credit for graduating in 4 years while raising my nephew for 3 of those years. Steph jokes that Nevan (now two and a half) is also graduating from college so he got to be a part of the photo shoot. And if Aunt Holly has anything to say about it, Nevan WILL go to Illinois someday.

The “safe” headshot in case Mom doesn’t like the other more artsy ones. Haha…

Over the river and through the woods | Family session

Five kids. Chickens. Tantrums. Ice cream bribes. Kittens. Maze. Willow trees. River. That pretty sums up my trip to rural St. Joe on Saturday to hang out with this awesome family. It’s fun to do pictures of so many kids in a family at once as you really get to see each of their personalities. I could tell you something unique about each one of these kids now. And they knew about me too, which was cool. And means that someone actually reads my blog!

Memorial Day Weekend sessions

Hi, blog readers!

We had a BUSY weekend, and fun for the most part even though it rained pretty much all day Monday. Saturday evening, the tables were turned and Aaron and I posed for VWC Photography for a Mr. & Mrs. session. We spent some time at a mural near downtown, Memorial Stadium (where we got kicked out… oops!), outside of Assembly Hall and finally at the Hallene Gateway & fountain. Oh man, we took so many cool shots, and even came up with a bunch of stuff I hadn’t even pictured, so I am so anxious to see the photos! I now know how many of my clients feel as they wait for their photos from me!

Oh, and Thursday night, I made these cute cherry-limeade cupcakes for my co-workers. I got the recipe from my friends Jen & Adam download lilo stitch

Sunday morning, we got up and drove to Springfield to do an afternoon engagement session with my mom, Paula, and her fiance, Joe. We started out at Joe’s house and then dodged the rain at Washington Park. The photos following those are of Joe’s daughter, Izzy, and my nephew Nevan.

Oh my word… I don’t think he could get any cuter.

Baby Ruby | newborn photography

I love baby feet. There I said it. So you’ll notice lots of feet pictures of the two newborns I’ve photographed this month. And then mix in the bokeh watch 4th tenor the in divx of their faces and/or cute little bodies in the background, and I just can’t stand how much I love these images! I photographed her beautiful mother while she was still pregnant as well as her dad, and big brother and sister back in March. Here are 3 of my favorites of Baby Ruby.

Any other newborns out there or babies on the way? My summer calendar is filling up fast, but I still have a couple openings in June and a few in July!

Mim &amp; Cora – children&#039;s photography

I get the chance to photograph these two beautiful girls about once a year. They are going to be big sisters! And then our photo sessions will become even more crazy… I can’t even imagine! I spent the weekend visiting their parents (Mommy was a college roommate) and we played at the park, went to church and visited the Jewel Box in St. Louis. The Jewel Box is like a big greenhouse that is used for small weddings. It’s great for portrait sessions because it’s indoors (it was kinda rainy and VERY windy that day), it’s warm, it has amazing diffused light (it’s all glass!) and there are plants galore to use as backdrops. Perfect! Here are some of my favorites…

I did a shoot of these brothers the week before Christmas, and finally got to use the new UI Business building as a location. This place is super sweet for portraits when it’s nasty outside because one wall is 3 complete stories of windows. A photographer’s dream!!

Jody works at the new Institute of Genomic Biology on the UI campus. I like the way this woman thinks! She contacted me about getting her headshot done before the end of the year because she likes the way her hair is right now.

Ashley + Scott are getting married!

I’ve known Scott probably since he was about 4 years old. We were in the same 4-H club, his sister Tara (hi Tara!) is a really good friend of mine, and his grandma was my kindergarten teacher. Oh man, as I’m typing those things, I’m realizing that list goes on and on because we also showed cattle together and I have some great stories about Sid his dad. LOL… oh, memories. I don’t know Ashley quite as well, but it seems like she and Scott have been dating FOREVER, so I have hung out with her a few times.

My friend Shelley tagged along for the shoot as she wanted a behind-the-scenes look at a portrait session with Holly Birch Photography. Thanks for coming along Shelley! I hope you learned a couple things.

It’s so cool to see people you know falling in love and taking the plunge. I know I have a VERY anxious Ashley waiting to see these, so here they are, in probably the longest set of favorites I’ve posted yet.

You might know that song line from the movie “White Christmas,” or not if you’re not a dork like me!

I’ve known these two ladies for a LONG time. I went to jr. high and high school with Ann and she’s been one of my closest friends since we met in 7th grade. She now has a master’s degree and is teaching college English (hey, Dave, if you’re reading this, she still needs to email you!!). Ann aspires to someday be a famous author. She has some GREAT ideas, one of which I’ve been pushing her to write for at least 2 years (*hint, hint* Ann!!).

Mary is a few years younger than Ann but is equally amazing. This girl is an avid runner and is really into a healthy lifestyle. They’re both fashionistas, dating way back to when I was still wearing corduroy and flannel (I’m serious!) and they were hard-core GAP followers. Now I shop at the GAP while they’ve graduated to, oh, I don’t know Banana Republic and AnnTaylor or something. Ann also has an adorable dog named Audrey and two kittens, Josh & Ella. It would’ve been fun to have Audrey at the shoot, but then the kittens would have felt left out.
