Oskee in Illini Land

October 9, 2009

Finally, after about a year of planning, several revisions, 3 photo shoots, and tons of phone calls and emails, Oskee in Illini Land is in print! This book is definitely a labor of love, especially for Joanne, who gets to take care of this adorable pooch.

Copies and more information on “Oskee in Illini Land: Memoirs of a Small Canine on a Large College Campus” are available at www.oskeesbook.com.

Oskee Take 3
You may remember Oskee from his two previous sessions here and here. Well Joanne is close to wrapping up the book, and she and a friend came up with one last idea to tie the book all together at the end, so we had to shoot it. Joanne and I have a habit of getting together on the 4th of July (twice I went to Quincy to see her) and this time she came to Springfield to see me! I was in Springfield for a wedding and a pool/birthday party for Nevan, so it worked out perfectly. I cannot wait until this book is published! Joanne has worked so hard on it!

And I finally got a photo with Oskee! I can’t believe I neglected to do this all these times we’ve been taking pictures of Oskee (and Joanne too!). Please excuse the freshly-showered-but-no-makeup look I was sporting. Ha!

Dogs + kids = fence

March 24, 2009

Aaron and I had a busy weekend as Friday at lunchtime, two of my co-workers’ dogs came to stay with us for a few days. Daisy is especially full of energy and I think that maybe she and Paisley are long lost twins because they act very much the same. Luckily though, Paisley does not have the howling tendency that Daisy has. Ack!! Maddie is like the old matronly dog who just scolds the other ones for behaving badly. Maddie went to stay with her grandma on Sunday, so Sunday through Wednesday of this week, we’re back down to 3 dogs. I took a couple snaps of the pups Friday afternoon while we were out playing… Daisy is on the left and Maddie on the right.

Then we went inside where they immediately made themselves at home on the back of my couch where they can see the road and all the kids and other dogs out walking by.

Then on Saturday, there was no sleeping in! I left the house at 7:30 to go pick up a post hole digger from Rental City and we got to digging holes by 8:30. Dad showed up at 10 to make sure we did the job right (good thing he was there because I think we’d have ended up with a very crooked fence line!) You can see all the fencing materials and tools scattered all over the yard.

Here’s my strapping hubby mixing the concrete for the bottom of the terminal post holes.

Another view of the yard, complete with Dad’s big diesel truck and the Milwaukee saw that thank goodness we had so we didn’t have to hacksaw off all the top rails. That would have been a nightmare!
Fence Project
These suckers were amazing and only cost $15 for the whole day! We dug about 16 holes I think, each 2 feet deep (and for those of you wondering… yes, I called JULIE).

Then on Sunday, we rested. (see what I did there?)
And Sunday night my cousin Amanda and her husband Kirk and their three kids–Brady, Bethany, and 2-month-old Georgia–came to stay with us on their way back to Ohio. For those of you keeping track at home, that’s 7 people and 3 dogs all in our house Sunday night! I took a couple quick shots of the kiddos before work Monday morning:

Whew! I’m exhausted just typing this all out! :)

I realized that I had more pictures of Oskee

(oh, and here too) that I did of my own dogs, so here are my two best friends! :)

We just got Sophie about a month ago. She was born with a cleft palate, but is doing very well at 4 years old! Just look at this face… how can you resist it?! She is a purebred English bulldog, but is about 1/3 the size of a normal bulldog.

And here’s Paisley, the 3-year-old bundle of energy beagle/rat terrier mix. This shot reminds me Charlie over at Pioneer Woman. Haha!

Oskee’s 2nd Book Session

February 26, 2009

We had to re-do a couple shots from Oskee’s first session because we didn’t get a great shot of the Union, and also because Oskee didn’t really cooperate on the “bang! bang!” command on the bike bath. LOL Silly dog. Joanne also made him this cute little coat that says “Oskee: Bad to the Bone.”
