The day after I got my new camera, I got to test it out on the UI football field at Memorial Stadium. After a day of shooting I can already tell a huge difference in my photos and the way I shoot.

The day started out with tailgating at 8:15 a.m., of course. We had a really sweet spot (since the regular tailgate lots were not open) in between Assembly Hall & Memorial Stadium. And they actually had porta-potties for us this year! We were so happy.

At halftime, Coach Zook gave out awards to the players. Jon Asamoah won the Faculty Award and the GPA award.

Some 200+ players came back to be recognized at halftime, many of whom played for Mike White. I talked to Brandon Lloyd for a minute. Brandon and I had a journalism class together in college.

The week started out cold and icky again (I almost froze my fingers off at football practice on Tuesday!), but it warmed up nicely again by Wednesday afternoon, just in time for the Boneyard Arts Festival. And since there was a chance of rain in the forecast for this weekend, Aaron and I decided to get a jumpstart on our unfinished fence and we worked for 3.5 hours Wednesday night and got it about 95% done! Yes!!



Now we just have to find a 3/4″ masonry drill bit to be able to shut the gates properly over the driveway. Anyone? Anyone?

Then Thursday was the beginning of the Boneyard Arts Festival, which kicked off in downtown Champaign. My friends Becca and Mimi (one of my second shooters!) had their own gallery setup in the old Jennifer North building.

This weekend should be busy as well, with the World’s Largest Softball Tailgate tomorrow, Illini baseball all weekend, a football scrimmage and autograph session Saturday morning, and an engagement session on Sunday.download scary movie 4 dvd

This will be my last basketball post until probably November. The Illini finished 2nd in the Big Ten, thanks to wins by MSU and Iowa. Next is the Big Ten Tournament, which starts Thursday, though Illinois doesn’t play until Friday at 5:30 (CST).

Now on to basketball. This was the first game I was able to shoot for Scout.com this year. The Illini took on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first regular game of the season.

The Illini have not played well at home this year, but have played really well on the road, despite a loss to Penn State. So after an emotionally and gratifying win over bitter rival Michigan two weekends ago, the Illini slept in their own beds and played the Big Ten home opener at Memorial Stadium. The offense and defense were both dead in the first half, and despite a scoring surge in the 4th quarter, the Illini came up short 27-20. Here are some shots:
