I finally made the hurdle over to #1 on Google with the search for “Urbana wedding photographers”! I moved up a couple spots for “Champaign wedding photographers too, but I’m still not on page 1. I’ll keep tweaking my site though and hope to get more love next time Google crawls my site. Exciting stuff (for me, at least!)!

Dogs + kids = fence

March 24, 2009

Aaron and I had a busy weekend as Friday at lunchtime, two of my co-workers’ dogs came to stay with us for a few days. Daisy is especially full of energy and I think that maybe she and Paisley are long lost twins because they act very much the same. Luckily though, Paisley does not have the howling tendency that Daisy has. Ack!! Maddie is like the old matronly dog who just scolds the other ones for behaving badly. Maddie went to stay with her grandma on Sunday, so Sunday through Wednesday of this week, we’re back down to 3 dogs. I took a couple snaps of the pups Friday afternoon while we were out playing… Daisy is on the left and Maddie on the right.

Then we went inside where they immediately made themselves at home on the back of my couch where they can see the road and all the kids and other dogs out walking by.

Then on Saturday, there was no sleeping in! I left the house at 7:30 to go pick up a post hole digger from Rental City and we got to digging holes by 8:30. Dad showed up at 10 to make sure we did the job right (good thing he was there because I think we’d have ended up with a very crooked fence line!) You can see all the fencing materials and tools scattered all over the yard.

Here’s my strapping hubby mixing the concrete for the bottom of the terminal post holes.

Another view of the yard, complete with Dad’s big diesel truck and the Milwaukee saw that thank goodness we had so we didn’t have to hacksaw off all the top rails. That would have been a nightmare!
Fence Project
These suckers were amazing and only cost $15 for the whole day! We dug about 16 holes I think, each 2 feet deep (and for those of you wondering… yes, I called JULIE).

Then on Sunday, we rested. (see what I did there?)
And Sunday night my cousin Amanda and her husband Kirk and their three kids–Brady, Bethany, and 2-month-old Georgia–came to stay with us on their way back to Ohio. For those of you keeping track at home, that’s 7 people and 3 dogs all in our house Sunday night! I took a couple quick shots of the kiddos before work Monday morning:

Whew! I’m exhausted just typing this all out! :)

I’ve added one more thing to the list that I’m dying to photograph, but Miss Mommy in the post below has already filled the spot (at least once baby girl comes along in a few weeks!). I’m offering some great sale prices on these sessions, so let me know when you’re ready to book!

Here are the other sessions I’m looking to fill in the next few months:
1) An outdoor wedding (this means the ceremony is outdoors; reception can be indoors or outdoors)
2) Bridal session or Trash-the-dress session (I promise you do NOT have to get your dress dirty, but you do have to be willing to go outdoors with it on)
3) A class of 2010 senior who wants their senior photos to look different from all their friends’ senior photos
4) A woman who has just purchased a hot new outfit (dress preferred!) with some killer heels
5) A newborn (within first two weeks of birth) – this session is FILLED!

I spent some time this weekend with this beautiful family that I met a while back at church. Mom is due with baby number 3 in April, and she is at the perfect size for maternity shots. I’m hoping that she’ll let me do a newborn session then too before they move to Texas! By the way, I know some great photographers in the Lone Star State if you’re needing more portraits after you move there!

I hope I can look even 75% this gorgeous when I am pregnant someday. (To my mother and grandmother who are probably reading this, I said “someday”). Brein is an independent beauty consultant for Mary Kay, so if you’re looking for a consultant, check out her website!

Colby: Love the pictures. Can't wait to see the rest

M.E.: Wow these are fantastic. Holly you do such a great job! You even made Colby look half way decent! ;-) Brein you are a true beauty inside and out!

This week I received my latest canvas sample which will now be displayed prominently in my office! The beautiful bride in this shot is Jen who married Chris last May. This was one of my absolute favorite shots from 2008 and the pictures below do not do this gorgeous canvas justice. Please call or email if you’d like to stop by and see it sometime! I’ll be happy to show it off!

This second photo shows how good the craftsmanship is. The canvas also came with hanging hardware which is a very nice bonus. I think it would also look cool in a floating frame, so I’ll have to consider that soon.

My full-time job is at Precision Graphics in downtown Champaign. We are lucky to get fresh flowers every week from Rick Orr Florist

also in downtown Champaign. Today we got sunflowers, which is perfect because I’ve been wanting a picture of a sunflower to frame and hang in my bathroom! Two birds, one stone. :)

I get the chance to photograph these two beautiful girls about once a year. They are going to be big sisters! And then our photo sessions will become even more crazy… I can’t even imagine! I spent the weekend visiting their parents (Mommy was a college roommate) and we played at the park, went to church and visited the Jewel Box in St. Louis. The Jewel Box is like a big greenhouse that is used for small weddings. It’s great for portrait sessions because it’s indoors (it was kinda rainy and VERY windy that day), it’s warm, it has amazing diffused light (it’s all glass!) and there are plants galore to use as backdrops. Perfect! Here are some of my favorites…

I realized that I had more pictures of Oskee

(oh, and here too) that I did of my own dogs, so here are my two best friends! :)

We just got Sophie about a month ago. She was born with a cleft palate, but is doing very well at 4 years old! Just look at this face… how can you resist it?! She is a purebred English bulldog, but is about 1/3 the size of a normal bulldog.

This will be my last basketball post until probably November. The Illini finished 2nd in the Big Ten, thanks to wins by MSU and Iowa. Next is the Big Ten Tournament, which starts Thursday, though Illinois doesn’t play until Friday at 5:30 (CST).

Darren: Wow - these are great. I am a Phoenix commercial photographer in Arizona and am wondering if you were shooting with strobes or simply the ambient?

admin: Hi Darren! Thanks for the comment. The basketball shots are all with ambient light. Some photographers there are allowed to mount strobes on the ceiling, but I am not one of them. I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have!
