My friend Ryler DeHeart won his first round game at the U.S. Open this week and last night he went up in the 2nd round against #1 in the world, Rafael Nadal. Nadal is the French Open champion, Wimbledon champion and the 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist. Needless to say, if I were Ryler, I would have been very nervous. He ended up playing really well though, even though he lost, 1-6, 2-6, 4-6. He even got some kudos from Nadal and John McEnroe, who had been really giving him a hard time all night from the announcers’ booth. Here are a few shots of Ryler I took, oh man, I don’t know… probably 2 years ago? Wow, time flies.

My sports-shooting skills have come a LONG way… and I think this might have been the day that I really discovered the difference my white balance setting makes. Embarrassing.

I hung it on my wall last night, but didn’t snap a picture of that yet. For now, here are some shots straight out of the box.

I didn’t realize it until I printed out signs for Alexis to hold at her senior session yesterday. I showed them to Aaron to get his opinion and he said, “You mean we graduated 10 years ago?!” Wow, I feel old now. But I digress…

I had such a fun time with Alexis, except for the part where she made me walk through a very long, muddy and DARK tunnel to get to some graffiti and a creek. But it was exciting! I’d been working on a list of cool locations all summer long and we knocked out 4 of them just last night. We’re going to hit up a couple more spots on Saturday with a couple other outfits and props as well. Alexis was a good sport and we had a lot of similar ideas (including one her dad whispered to me before we left), so that made her session really relaxing and comfortable. Below are some of my favorites.

She’s had a thing for this weathered grocery sign for a long time, so we of course stopped there. I think I’ll be stealing this spot for future portrait sessions!

Alexis has a really young-at-heart aura about her, and she is always wearing awesome t-shirts, so we had to incorporate that!

This was one of those that her dad wanted. He has a major love for trains, and I love shooting on train tracks, so it was perfect!

I realized a couple days ago that I’ve shot about 3-4 football practices in the last few weeks and I have forgotten to post anything about them! I think I waited for the perfect time to post these though because today was a closed scrimmage inside the Stadium so I took the opportunity to shoot a few photos from the stands.

The first thing I did when I got onto the field today was the reach down and touch the new turf and check it out. It’s SO nice! Really looks like grass from a distance (except that it’s kind of shiny).

This guy in white on the right (he’s number 78 if you can tell), is my buddy Ryan. I tailgate with his parents Kim and Lisa before the games. They are a riot and so much fun to hang out with. I always take a few extra shots of Ryan at every practice just to send to his mom.

And lastly, here’s a cool one from Champaign-Urbana that I shot while sitting in the turn lane to get on the interstate to go home. I just thought it looked really sweet and luckily I still had my camera (400mm zoom!) in the front seat with me from football practice.
